You have to hunt a bit to locate Biff Buzby’s Burgers, but it’s more than worth the effort.
Biff Buzby’s is an aviation-theme family restaurant tucked into the corner of a strip mall on Toepperwein Road, just south of IH 35. The name might stress burgers, which are good, but the menu has a number of good choices, all for moderate prices.
Place your order at the counter, fill up your drink cup, and wait for your name to be called. Then dig in!
I’ve tried the burgers and they are indeed good. Of the burger selections, my favorite is “The Q.”
“The Q” tops a 1/2 pound of ground beef with crispy bacon, melted cheddar, grilled onions and barbecue sauce. This is one substantial and tasty burger. With this selection, I like the crispy and flavorful sweet potato fries.
Another favorite is the “Give Me 5” BLT: 5 bacon strips, 5 tomato slices, lettuce and mayo on Texas toast.
The bacon strips are substantial and cooked to a perfect chewy crispness. The sandwiches are served with a side of pinto beans, but tater tots, fries or sweet potato fries can be substituted for 99 cents.
The fish basket is another favorite.
Usually this comes with four portions of freshly fried beer-battered cod. The fish is light and crispy, and is served with lemon (and tartar sauce, which I don’t use, but my friend swears it’s a better-than-average version. I will never know.). The basket comes with fries and pinto beans, but I substitute onion rings for a few cent more. The rings are hand-breaded and quite good. And the beans are tasty.
Occasionally I get the fish with regular fries and green beans.
Biff Buzby’s serves good food in a relaxed atmosphere. And if you are a car enthusiast, you can go on Friday “Cruising Nights” to vintage cars on display and talk with other car lovers.
