W D Deli on Broadway is known for its catering. But it’s also a popular spot for folks who work in the Broadway/Alamo Heights area to pick up a quick, quality lunch.
The sandwiches at W D Deli are all made on freshly baked bread. One of my favorites is the chicken chipotle parmesan on ciabata bread.
Moist chicken breast meat and parmesan cheese are accented perfectly by the spicy chipotle mayo and cooled with lettuce and tomato. The ciabata bread is very good: slightly sour and chewy, it is the perfect roll for this rustic sandwich.
Also good is the southwest roast beef with jalapeno cream cheese.
Thinly sliced roast beef is accompanied by a just-spicy-enough jalapeno cream cheese; the sandwich is finished with purple onion, lettuce, tomato and mayo. The blend of flavors works very well together.
Every sandwich is accompanied by a side of salad. The pasta salad included chunks of squash and kernels of corn and was lightly dressed with mayo. Overall, it was a bit bland. In contrast, the Caesar salad dressing was a bit heavy on the anchovy.
For dessert, my favorite is the orange cream cake.
One generous slice is more than enough for two to share. The orange cake is tangy and luscious, and the cream cheese frosting is rich and decadent. After the savory sandwiches, this sweet treat is a perfect ending to a good mid-day meal.
I have also used W D Deli for catering and have always been pleased. You can find the W D Deli lunch menu and catering info at their website: http://www.wddeli.com.
